Assisting teachers and students with sporting activities and with school excursions.
- Assisting with the management and stocktaking of equipment and resources.
- Communicating effectively and displaying high level of interpersonal skills to function as an effective team member.
- Maintaining anecdotal records on students for use in reviewing student’s development.
- Displaying respect and empathy for students with high level needs.
- Displaying confidentiality, tact, reliability and sensitively to students and their families.

- Clerical assistance duties including typing teachers’ notes and work programs, duplicating and photocopying teaching materials, checking bus lists, collation and duplication of exam papers, recording of examination results, compiling students results records, assisting in organising off site activities etc.
- Assisting in the supervision of education activities, under the direction of a teacher.
- Assisting in preparing, storing, making available and clearing away teaching equipment and materials.
- Contributing to the welfare, health and safety of students including the delivery of first aid. Where the teacher aide is required to administer first aid, the teacher aide would be required to be formally trained in the administration of first aid, and keep such qualifications current. All costs associated with obtaining and maintaining qualifications would be met from school funds.
- Assist students with special needs, this may in certain circumstances extend to moving disabled pupils, assisting with positioning, assisting with meals, toileting and dressing of pupils unable to care for themselves. Suitable training is essential.
- Listening to students’ reading.
- Reading aloud and storytelling.
- Assisting with science demonstrations, textile and cooking classes; e.g. collation of food lists, purchasing, preparation and storage of materials.
- Laundering linens.
- Care of equipment.
- Assisting students to find reference materials.
- Specific Literacy and Numeracy duties may include:

Teacher Aides can provide many support options throughout the school and are supported by many programs. These include:
In-class Prep Support – Our school incorporates a model that ensures that each Prep class has a fulltime teacher aide. They support the Prep teacher and the programs associated with our Prep program that include but are not limited to Heggertys, Reading and Language Mastery, small group rotations etc…
In-class teacher support 1 – 6 – This support in class can be used to support but is not limited to, EALD students, Problem Solving groups, Student Engagement support, Student access to the curriculum support.
Individualised Support – This support option includes reinforced reading and Speech Language Support with specific students.
Tier 2 Programs – Our Tier 2 programs include ones to support Reading (Corrective Reading, Reading Mastery, Heggertys), Spelling (Spelling Mastery), Writing (Expressive Writing), EALD (DISE) and Maths (Corrective Maths, Junior Elementary Maths Mastery).
Tier 3 Programs – This support option is for our students who are performing significantly below grade level and require more intensive support. The programs used for these students include Macqlit, and MiniLit.

We run an extensive Year6 into year 7 transition program.
In-class support. IN Year 7-9 support is mainly in core classes. In senior, mostly practical subjects (ranging from the farm, to technology, hospitality, fashion, and the arts) with some 1:1 support at times.
Typical responsibilities:
In-class support working with a range of students with disabilities, as well as general students. We support the whole class. Support on excursions and camps.
There is some PGD (tuckshop, year 7 area, bus etc).

Contributing to the welfare, health and safety of students including the delivery of first aid. Where the teacher aide is required to administer first aid, the teacher aide would be required to be formally trained in the administration of first aid, and keep such qualifications current. All costs associated with obtaining and maintaining qualifications would be met from school funds.
- Assist students with special needs, this may in certain circumstances extend to moving disabled pupils, assisting with positioning, assisting with meals, toileting and dressing of pupils unable to care for themselves. Suitable training is essential.

Teacher Aides work across Years 7–12 and may be placed in a range of contexts, including:
- Literacy and Numeracy Intervention (Years 7–9 focus)
- Senior Pathways Support (Years 10–12: QCE, VET, work readiness)
- Learning Support and Inclusive Education (students with additional needs)
- Practical subjects such as HPE, Science, and The Arts
- Behaviour and Wellbeing support within classrooms and specialised spaces

Staff Culture:
We value all staff expertise and promote learning at all levels and career stages. Several of our teacher aides have become classroom teachers at Wynnum High. They have gained experience working with our students with disabilities and delivering literacy intervention programs and are now excelling in differentiation with their own classes.
